| topic | Viewing multiple documents |
| issue | I like the tabbed layout within Visual Studio, but I would like to be able to see more than one document at a time. |
| applies to | Visual Studio .NET |
Visual Studio makes it easy to open multiple files and click on a tab to work with each one as a document in the IDE. You can view two or more documents side by side, either vertically or horizontally, by creating a tab group.
Create a tab group as follows:
If you would prefer to use the menu, right-click on the tab and select New Horizontal Tab Group or New Vertical Tab Group from the context menu.
| topic | Undocking windows |
| issue | Every time I undock I window, I can never get it back to where it was. Are there any tricks to doing this? |
| applies to | Visual Studio .NET |
Just double-click the title bar of the window. It with then undock and you can move it or work with it as you wish.
When you are finished with the window, simply double-click the title bar of the window again, and it will automatically redock where it had been.

Yes! Select Tools | Options from the menu to open the Options dialog box. Then click the Reset Windows Layout button.
After you confirm the operation and close the Options dialog box, the window layout will be reset to the default.
